It is May

On the 26 of April we saw snow on the top of Pichinca on the way to work. This view is from near our apartment building. It has been raining and raining. They say the sunshine will come in May. We shall see.

These very cute guinea pigs and owls are made from gourds. They have been painted and then carved a bit. I can't wait to show them to you. They should be able to take a little abuse so all the kids can hold them. They rattle at bit with the seeds that are inside. The biggest owl is about 5 inches high.

There is more than one kind of banana here. Above you see the bananas in the rear are the bananas that are sold in the United States. We can also buy "baby bananas" that you can see in front. They are very similar but much smaller and a bit sweeter. They would be perfect for small children who want a whole banana. There are of course also the very big green bananas that are cooked before eating. Slices are smashed and fried and eaten like french fries. They are cooked in many ways and eaten often. I have not yet tasted a version that I thought was really good. But I have not yet eaten a lot of Ecuadorian food.

How about that! That is not your mother's Calla Lily. Aren't they colorful and beautiful? Maria, the receptionist at the church office building had them on her desk.
