Day trip to Guayllabamba

The Morales invited us and the Yosts to visit Guayllabamba which is beyond the north of Quito. They are in the process of building a home there on land that Sister Morales bought some time ago. It is a lovely house that is almost finished. They have a big backyard and she is growing lots of plants that provide food. It is warmer there and the day was clear and sunny with big puffy clouds. Reminded me a clear day in Camarillo-beautiful. It took us about an hour, maybe an hour and a half to get there. This is the back of their home:

Here is Sister Yost and Sister Morales in their living room.

I have asked a half dozen times but I can't remember the name of these pods- guayabas maybe.  Sister Morales has a large tree growing in her backyard. She also has some lemons, limes, tree tomatoes, figs, hot peppers (which she says she doesn't like but Brother Morales does in moderation), watermelon, corn, tomatoes, squash, beans, mint, and several things that I am not familiar with. Sister Morales loves to garden and is a good Mormon self reliant person. 

You have to crack open the pod and eat this soft almost fuzzy white part. It is sweet and there is a seed inside.

There was fresh fruit available for sale all along main street. We bought some avocados and took them home to Sister Chiza who is fond of avocados. But we bought ice cream cones and said we would come back to buy the avocados. The ones on the bottom of the bag were quite ripe so we had to eat them immediately and Sister Chiza only got a couple on Monday.

We had a lovely day with our friends.
